English Department Mission

The English Language Arts Program at Saint Mary’s Hall gives students the opportunities and resources to develop the language skills they need to participate fully as informed, productive members of society. To that end, students receive a balanced curriculum of reading, writing, and thinking from Kindergarten through Form 12.

The faculty receives intensive professional development in reading, writing, and thinking strategies that they can later implement daily in classrooms. Students are also encouraged to participate in a range of opportunities to publish their writing, enter writing competitions, and participate in a number of creative activities and projects within their English Language Arts classroom
